2009 Poinsettia Bowl Battle of the Bands in Gaslamp

2009 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

The 2009 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl pits the Utah Utes (9-3) from the Mountain West Conference versus the California Golden Bears (8-4) from the Pac-10 Conference.  Kickoff is 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 23 at Qualcomm Stadium in the heart of Mission Valley.  This matchup should prove to be competitive.  However, another battle occurs Monday, December 21 at Market and Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego.

The “Battle of the Bands” has the marching bands from each school face off to decide, once and for all, who is best.  The Utah Utes marching band will head east on Fifth Avenue and the California Golden Bears marching band will head west for a clash at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Market Street.  2009 bowl president Barbara Warden as quoted on the official bowl website states, “To stage a unique event like this in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter truly is special.”  She continues saying, Read the rest of this entry »
