San Diego County Fair Starts Today

Can't Wait for Fair Food

Can't Wait for Fair Food

I look forward to many events throughout the year and I must say that the San Diego County Fair is among the top of my list. There’s just something about the smell of the Del Mar ocean air mixed with fried foods of all shapes and kinds that keeps me coming back for more year after year.  This year’s theme is “Taste the Fun” and I can guarantee that I will.

The San Diego County Fair (formerly known as the Del Mar Fair) runs from today, June 11 through Monday, July 5.  Please note the fair is closed on June 14, 21 and 28.  This fair began in 1880, has been held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds since 1936 and is the sixth largest fair in the United States according to the San Diego County Fair website.  It is an important event to San Diego County as evident of last year’s attendance record of 1,274,442 people. Attractions include games and rides at the midway, shopping, exhibits and of course the food.

This year, as in most years, the fair has new food offerings.  I will begin with the deep fried variety…Klondike ice cream bars, Pop Tarts and…butter? Read the rest of this entry »
